An explosive half-back who can break through traffic and penetrate defences, Goater was selected out of Calder's U-18s program in the 2021 National Draft with the 22nd overall pick.
His natural athletic power lends itself well to both intercept defending and contested midfield work, and as a boyhood North Melbourne fan, he fit into the club seamlessly.

2023: Coupling a strong pre-season with an impressive debut in the final game of 2022, Goater was trusted with a spot in Alastair Clarkson's starting 23 to begin the season.
He played the first three matches, averaging 13 disposals per game, but fell out of favour and didn’t return until Round 18 after recovering from a knee injury suffered in the VFL.
He capped off the year with 22 touches and seven marks against the Suns in what was his performance of the season.
