AFLW R3 team: Debutant among three inclusions

AFLW debutant Abby Favell is among three inclusions for North Melbourne's Indigenous Round clash with the Western Bulldogs

AFLW debutant Abby Favell is among three inclusions for North Melbourne's Indigenous Round clash with the Western Bulldogs in Launceston on Saturday.

Favell, who was signed as a replacement player in pre-season after impressing for the club's VFLW side, learned she would make her debut in front of her teammates on Thursday morning.

    01:23

Two-time premiership player Emma King has been recalled for what will be her 99th AFLW game.

After missing Round 2's win over Brisbane, the ruck-forward dominated in the VFLW, booting three goals for North Melbourne Werribee against Collingwood.

Tessa Boyd has also been named to make her season debut after gathering 20 disposals and seven intercepts in the reserves.

Mia King (neck) comes out of the team that defeated the Lions in Queensland. An update on the star midfielder's injury will be provided on Friday.

Erika O'Shea (concussion) and Eilish Sheerin (knee) also miss this week.

Kristie-Lee Weston-Turner, Maddison Torpey and Sarah Wall are North Melbourne's three emergencies.

The Roos will wear their 2026 First Nations guernsey and special hand-painted boots for the Indigenous Round match at UTAS Stadium.

Fans are encouraged to get to the ground early to enjoy a performance by the Palawa Dancers as part of a Welcome to Country with Lucy Gardner.

AFLW R3 match report: Roos make it 30 for 30

North Melbourne trio Blaithin Bogue, Alice O'Loughlin and Kate Shierlaw have booted two goals each in a 47-point AFLW belting of the Western Bulldogs

North Melbourne trio Blaithin Bogue, Alice O'Loughlin and Kate Shierlaw have booted two goals each in a 47-point AFLW belting of the Western Bulldogs.

The Kangaroos’ 11.4 (70) to 3.5 (23) triumph in Launceston on Saturday stretches their winning streak to 30 consecutive matches.

Chasing a third-straight premiership, North accelerated from the previously undefeated Dogs after a tight opening.

    06:14

The Kangas led by just one point at quarter-time before kicking eight of the next nine goals in a contest marred by a horrible jumper clash - both clubs in predominantly blue and white guernseys, and blue shorts.

"To be honest, it was really challenging at times," North's Shierlaw said of the kit clash after the game.

Bogue, O'Loughlin and Shierlaw were prominent and teammates Tess Craven, Ruby Tripodi, Tahlia Randall, Jasmine Garner and Emma King also kicked majors.

Midfield megastars Ash Riddell (32 disposals) and Garner (27) were outstanding.

The Dogs slipped to their first loss of the season, despite the best efforts of Isabelle Pritchard (21 touches), Jess Fitzgerald (22) and Jasmyn Smith (18).

KANGAROOS v BULLDOGS Full match coverage and stats

Both teams couldn't muster an opening goal amid fierce pressure until the stalemate was broken with about two minutes remaining in the first quarter.

The Dogs produced a fast break from half-back and Sarah Hartwig was the end link in the goalkicking chain.

The Kangaroos replied almost instantly with towering King using her height for a strong mark, followed by accurate conversion.

North led 1.2 to 1.1 at quarter-time and then made the decisive break, kicking three goals to one to seize momentum and create a 14-point half-time edge.

The powerhouses steamed further away in the third quarter to hold a 30-point advantage at three-quarter time, before cruising to victory.
