After becoming Shinboner No.1041 on Sunday, Jason Horne-Francis is keen to see what learnings this young North Melbourne side can take from its Round 1 loss to Hawthorn.

The Kangaroos started the game on fire, leading by 20 points midway through the second quarter before unfortunately giving up six straight goals to the Hawks on route to a 20-point loss, but Horne-Francis says there is plenty to be taken out of the clash.

"I think most of the boys, our whole playing group, will have a lot more confidence going into the game [this weekend]," Horne-Francis told North Media.

"We did a lot of things right [against Hawthorn], and I think for me it'll give me a lot of confidence having that first AFL game. Experiencing what it's like will really help me."

Having already joined the small group of people to have represented North Melbourne at the highest level, Horne-Francis joined the even smaller group of players to have kicked a goal on debut for the club.

Midway through the second term, Horne-Francis found the ball in his hands after his Kangaroos teammates released it from a stoppage in the forward 50. His snap then sailed true and through the middle of the goals.

He says he wasn't expecting the ball to end up in his hands at that moment.

"It was a funny one. In the clip you can see me walking at the back of the stoppage. I didn't think I was going to get the ball, I thought it was going to be a repeat stoppage," he said.

"It spilled out and came to me, and I was lucky enough to kick it. It was a really good moment."
