North Melbourne's AFL squad, along with coaches and some past players, have thrown their support behind Ben Cunnington by taking on the Cancer Council's Longest Day ultimate golf challenge at Heidelberg Golf Club on Thursday.

After his battle with testicular cancer across 2021 and 2022, the veteran Kangaroo made an inspirational return to football in Round 22 last season.

He also recently signed on as an ambassador for the Cancer Council's Longest Day and was aiming to raise $10,000 for cancer research, prevention, and support services.

"It's huge," Cunnington told reporters regarding the golf day and what it meant to him.

"We're just here to promote awareness and hopefully raise some funds towards a cancer-free future, so that's the main aim and to get so many numbers behind us, especially with the North Melbourne Football Club, it's a good way to start."

Prior to heading out on to the course, Bailey Scott and Luke McDonald surprised Cunnington in the clubrooms with a $10,000 donation cheque on behalf of the players dedicated to the Cancer Council.

That donation has also been matched dollar for dollar by the North Melbourne Football Club, taking the total to $20,000.
