Peter Schofield, Shinboner No.487, returned to the North Melbourne Football Club on Friday to celebrate his 91st birthday.

A dangerous forward and an all-round quality footballer, Schofield commenced his career in 1951 in the VFL at Richmond where he featured 16 times, before moving to Melbourne for six appearances.

He made the shift to Moorabbin in the VFA for his first of two stints in 1954 and booted 96 majors to lead the goalkicking in his debut campaign – which included an astounding 22-goal haul against Sandringham in the final round.

1957 saw Schofield arrive at Arden Street where he would end up playing 50 games for the club, including the 1958 preliminary final.

After topping the club's goal tally in 1959, the former No.33, who managed to boot eight goals against South Melbourne at home in Round 15, 1960, would go on to finish his time at North Melbourne with 111 total majors to his name.

He ended his playing career with a final season at Moorabbin in 1961.

Schofield came to Arden Street in February 2023 after the club welcomed back fellow late Shinboners John Brady and Kevin McMahon last year for their respective birthdays. He was accompanied by his stepdaughter Sally for the visit.
