Dashing trade period recruit Zac Fisher will be available against Collingwood on Wednesday after recovering from a hamstring complaint.

Fisher avoided a serious strain a month ago, but has been restricted to the rehab group while returning to fitness and missed last week's official intraclub clash.

He is expected to play managed minutes against the Magpies in Wednesday morning's match simulation at AIA Park.

"Zac has just finished his peak loading phase of footy-specific work and running conditioning, as well as increasing his hamstring work in gym," head of performance Kevin White told NMFC Media.

"The block of training was set up as a mini pre-season for Zac, with a couple of interruptions to his pre-season warranting a need for consistency to his training in keeping him healthy moving forward."

Half-back Bailey Scott has been tracking well after suffering a minor calf strain earlier this month.

The 23-year-old is slated to return to the main group next week ahead of the club's Community Series game against St Kilda in Moorabbin on Sunday, March 3.

"Over the past week, he has made significant improvements both in his strength markers along with on-field running conditioning," White said.

"We will take a conservative approach in building Bailey through a strong week of football conditioning."

Luke McDonald, Aidan Corr, and Eddie Ford have all stepped up their conditioning work over the past 2-3 weeks.

"Missing our peak team training phase with the squad through their injuries, it is critical that we set them up with as strong a base as possible for 2024," White said.

"They are currently finishing the final week of extensive training this week in preparation for practice game participation against St Kilda next week."

Paul Curtis recently suffered a low-level ankle sprain during training, but has been given the green light to be available for selection against the Pies.

Despite putting in a strong month of training, young defender Jackson Archer has been dealt another setback, suffering a plantaris injury last Friday during his high loading reconditioning session. He's been ruled out for the next three weeks, meaning he'll miss both pre-season hitouts.

Ruck Hamish Free suffered an accidental knock to his jaw at training and presented with concussion symptoms soon afterwards.

Free is currently working through the 12-day concussion protocol with the club's medical staff and will be unavailable for selection this week, but should return to the mix ahead of the practice match with the Saints.
