North Melbourne Werribee has secured the double over Williamstown, earning a 21-point win over the Seagulls on Saturday morning.

The 1.6 (12) to 4.9 (33) victory at DSV Stadium was set up by the Kangaroos’ rock-solid defence, who were able to ensure the Seagulls’ attacking opportunities were few and far between.

Super Sav

Zoe Savarirayan played one of her best games since switching to half-back, picking up 17 disposals and eight intercepts. She had an outstanding first half, using her speed and skills by foot to fulfill her defensive duties at ground level and gain valuable territory.

Nike’s flying volley

Nyakoat 'Nike' Dojiok pulled another stunner out of her bag of tricks to secure the Roos’ second just before the main break.

Only moments after Elisabeth Jackson’s opener, the star forward chased after a bouncing ball close to goal, before pulling off a superb jumping fly kick on the line to lift her side.

The ladder now

The Roos’ eighth win of the season could could now see them move a game clear atop the VFLW ladder, pending the result of Box Hill’s clash. North Melbourne Werribee now move to 8-2 with a whopping percentage of 220.

What the coach said

VFLW Coach Brett Gourley on the win: “It’s always nice to go out to Williamstown and come away with the win. We knew it would be a really physical contest, but to the girls' credit I thought they stood up really well under a lot of pressure.

“I thought the way we stepped up in the second quarter, where we had a lot of time in forward half, was really good and set up the game for us.”

On Reid: “I thought all of the backs were great today. I was really pleased with how they went, particularly Stella.

“I thought she really controlled the backline and she’s learning to play that position really well.

“It was a move that we made early this year and one that we thought would work for us. She’s worked extremely hard and taken it on like the star she is. We’re really proud of how she’s gone about it down there and I thought today she was absolutely outstanding.”

On Savarirayan: “She has been incredible since she has come into the team. She always turns up with a smile on her face and is happy to play whatever role we give her.

“I thought she played her best game today. The run and drive she gave us off half-back was outstanding and gave us some really good metres gained. I was really pleased with how Zoe went today, she was fantastic.”
