North Melbourne spearhead Nick Larkey is closing on a return against St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
A low-grade PCL injury and ongoing knee soreness has kept Larkey on the sidelines for the past three matches, but he moved a step closer to full fitness after rejoining the senior team for training on Tuesday.
"Nick put in a significant week in terms of training and function, completing a high-end footy conditioning session," North Melbourne head of performance Kevin White said.
"He trained fully on Tuesday with the group and will train (again) on Thursday as his fitness test."
Young defender Josh Goater has received another setback after experiencing calf tightness during Sunday's VFL game against Geelong.
Goater, who returned to action earlier this month following a long spell on the sidelines with Achilles, quad and hamstring issues, was removed from the game during the first quarter at Arden St.
"Scans have revealed a low-grade calf strain which will disappointingly put a handbrake on the momentum of game exposure after a difficult year," White said.
"He will have a light week while that strain recovers before we reload once again once symptoms improve."
Big man Callum Coleman-Jones will move into another phase of his rehab this week as he continues to recover from a calf injury.
Coleman-Jones will resume running this week before reintegrating into training and pushing for selection across the final rounds of the season.
Defender Aidan Corr (calf) is also a chance of being available for the Kangaroos' closing games.
"Aidan has been building well and has put in two strong high-loading sessions," White said.
"We will look to integrate him into skills and group training across the next week."
Small forward Cooper Harvey, who missed last weekend due to illness, has resumed full group training and will be available for selection this week.
