Young winger Taylah Gatt is likely to miss a significant part of the AFLW season after injuring her ankle in Sunday's Grand Final rematch against Brisbane.

Gatt, who was a revelation in her third season last year, finished Sunday's 29-point win on the sidelines after rolling her right ankle late in the third quarter.

Scans revealed a syndesmosis injury to the high part of her ankle.

"She will consult a specialist this week for further planning, but she is likely to miss a significant part of the home and away season," North Melbourne senior AFLW physiotherapist Billy Williams said.

"We know she'll be so professional in her approach to rehab."

There was better news for Irish forward Vikki Wall, who also finished Sunday's game on the bench after receiving a heavy knock to her arm.

Scans returned no worrying findings, and Wall will undergo contact testing later this week to determine her availability for selection for Saturday's SuperClash against Carlton at Arden St Oval.

Defender Tessa Boyd will push for selection this week as she continues to recover well from a back complaint.

"Tessa has returned to running and skills over the weekend, and ticked off a really good session in Melbourne while the squad was in Brisbane," Williams said.

"She will get reassessed at training this week to see how she tolerates our training sessions but she is trending well to be available."

Fellow defender Nicole Bresnehan is also closing on a return from her hamstring injury, and is now only a week away from match fitness.

"Nicole continues to progress into higher speed running and training really well," Williams said.

"She has been symptom-free for a long time now and just has a couple of clinical tests and GPS milestones to meet before being cleared for selection.

"We expect her to be available for our Round 7 game against Essendon."
