Vice-captain Harry Sheezel and half-backs Colby McKercher and Riley Hardeman were among the standouts as the Kangaroos went head to head in a match simulation on Wednesday morning.

In warm and slightly hazy conditions at Arden St, the Roos played two periods of 15 minutes followed by two periods of 10 minutes.

After a handful of sessions on a modified program, Cam Zurhaar started with a clean gather and a lace-out ball to Jy Simpkin at centre half-forward.

Sheezel looked in top form as he covered the ground, racked up disposals and found targets through his standout vision.

Young onballer Luke Urquhart opposed Sheezel early, gathering several first touches directly from ruck contests.

The second-year Roo slotted a nice goal in the second period after an assist from Robert Hansen jnr. Hansen jnr went on to kick two majors of his own, both coming from set shots.

There was plenty of action for McKercher across half-back. He was in just about everything as he displayed his speed and poise throughout the session.

Hardeman was prevalent with a couple of intercepts. He worked forward to pick off an opposition kick inside 50 but couldn’t quite convert the set shot.

Building on from the match sim earlier this month, Hugo Mikunda continued to pop up with nice bits of play, this time off half-back. He gathered and flicked a rapid handball to Sheezel to help his side clear the danger from their defensive fifty at one stage.

Taylor Goad held his own in a ruck battle against Tristan Xerri, while later, Cooper Trembath and Jack Darling went head-to-head, with Trembath showing his deceptive leap.

Defensive pressure was a priority, and it went up a gear in the third and fourth periods. Tom Powell notched a spoil on the half-back flank in the fourth period, drawing a roar of approval from his teammates.

Powell also kickstarted a transition that resulted in a Nick Larkey goal, winning a free kick for his tackle on George Wardlaw. He swiftly found Sheezel with Finn O’Sullivan in support, before Goad sent a deep ball to his skipper to convert.

Wardlaw became more involved as the game progressed. He broke away and teed up Tristan Xerri for a goal in the second period, before dishing out a 'don’t argue' in the fourth period to assist a Simpkin goal.

Draftee Lachy Dovaston showcased his goal sense with a major from distance, and he almost had another when he found space on the end of a passage of play, but pushed his 50m set shot wide.

VFL-listed Roo Isaiah Markovsky impressed with a pack grab and two goals, one coming from a tight angle in the pocket.

Electric forward Paul Curtis left the field after landing on his shoulder but was back out on the field following the session.

Zac Banch, Luke Davies-Uniacke, Aidan Corr, Brayden George, Josh Goater, Jackson Archer, Callum Coleman-Jones, Zac Fisher, Zane Duursma, Jacob Konstanty, River Stevens, Bailey Scott, Charlie Spargo and Blake Thredgold didn't participate in the match sim.
