North Melbourne debutant Bailey Scott is beside himself with excitement as he prepares to pull on the royal blue and white stripes for the first time.

“I can’t wait. I’m stoked to be picked to play, and can’t wait to get out there,” Scott told North Media.

“One the game starts it will become another game of football and I won’t have to worry about anything, but the excitement at the moment, I just can’t wait to get out there.”

Son of 1996 premiership winner Robert, Scott was a father-son selection in the 2018 AFL Draft.

And it was his Dad who he was first to call after getting the news of the debut.

“I spoke to Dad first, but Mum was fine with that (laughs).

“I spoke to them both as quick as I could, and they were both so happy, and couldn’t wait to get across and watch and see the start of hopefully a long journey ahead.”

North’s new number 30 has already drawn parallels with his father in their football style, both being elite runners and neat users of the ball.

“I’ve seen a bit of Dad playing, North put together a nice video with clips of me and Dad, and on Fox Footy as well with the flashbacks, so I’ve seen a little bit here and there,” Scott said.

“The one I can really remember seeing is the 1996 flag, because that one gets replayed a little bit.

“I’ve been told I went around on Dad’s shoulders on Grand Final day in 2000 after he retired, so I guess that’s the first football moment for me, but I was a bit too young to remember that one.”

Coach Brad Scott was the first to inform Bailey of his debut, which has come as little surprise to North fans after watching his impressive pre-season performances.

“Scotty (Brad Scott) pulled me into his office, and told me had some good news for me this week, and that I was playing that through the lead-up and the practice matches that I had earned a spot.

“After that we went out on track, and he called the group in he told the boys I was going to debut, and I got a bit of a buzz from all the boys getting around me.”
