Despite missing North Melbourne’s Round 1 clash with Fremantle through suspension, defender Scott Thompson will continue to push the limits as a defender in 2019.

A player who rarely holds back, the Roos’ number 16 hasn’t been suspended as often as many may think, but has been reprimanded on more than a few occasions.

“No one likes getting fined,” Thompson told North Media.

“As a key defender you live pretty close to that fine line, and sometimes you might go over it.

“I hate getting suspended, so hopefully it doesn’t happen again.”

The 32-year-old has missed just the three games over his 11 seasons through suspension, but admits missing the season-opener was tough.

Now he’s eyeing a return; an injury to Ed Vickers-Willis opening the door for a near-certain start.

“It was difficult sitting at home and watching the boys go down on the weekend,” Thompson said.

“You just want to be out there helping them out, but we look forward to having another try this weekend and building a season from Round 2.

“The pre-season was a bit different for me given I knew I would be out for Round 1, but I’m ready to go, I’m itching to get out there and I can’t wait.”
