She’s admittedly a little shocked, and a little nervous about being named in the Roos’ first inaugural AFLW team, but Tasmanian Nicole Bresnehan can’t wait to pull on the royal blue and white in her home state.

The 21-year-old received a call to remember from North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos coach Scott Gowans on Wednesday, and just three years after playing football for the first time, will line up in Sunday’s AFLW clash against Carlton at North Hobart Oval.

“I’m pretty nervous and pumped about it,” Bresnehan told The Mercury.

“It is definitely earlier than expected; I wasn’t aiming for Round 1.”

Bresnehan played three seasons at Clarence, before getting her opportunity at North.

She was selected with pick 61 in the 2018 AFLW Draft, and lined up as a lock-down defender and on the wing in the Roos’ first practice match.

“It is great to play in Round 1 at North Hobart,” she said.

“The thought of it is quite nerve-racking, but at the end of the day it is just another game,” she said.

“I think if you over think that is when the issues start to arise, but I think I will just try and keep as calm as possible and try and go through the same routines as I usually do leading up to any big game.”

Bresnehan and the Roos will train at North Hobart Oval on Saturday from 4pm-5pm. Click here for more information.
