The sight of Daniel Wells in the stands at Aegis Park couldn’t have come soon enough.

Shortly after he arrived, the star midfielder was mobbed by staff and coaches including Brad Scott, Donald McDonald, Darren Crocker and Eugene Arocca - all keen to see how he was tracking after what can only be described as a month from hell.

“I’m much better now and looking forward to improving even more in the coming days,” Wells said during a brief chat with kangaroos.com.au.

His injured shoulder, cradled carefully in a sling, has been the least of his worries with the 26-year old experiencing a dramatic series of health complications following his surgery.

Wells felt short of breath, had back pain and coughed up blood upon returning home from hospital and was quickly readmitted. Specialists discovered large blood clots in his lungs and declared him ‘lucky to be alive’.

But today, Wells was vibrant and upbeat while basking in the sunshine and watching the Melbourne Storm train on Aegis Park. Next week he will travel to Queensland for a well deserved holiday with his wife and daughter.
