After Geelong’s emphatic victory over Hawthorn, it will be hard for Cats’ coach Chris Scott to make any changes for the Round 2 clash with North, however club veteran Joel Corey is doing his best to force his way in.

While the 31-year old has had an interrupted pre-season due to hip soreness, it didn’t affect his output in the VFL on Sunday as he picked up 28 possessions and was named among the Cats’ best.

"I thought Joel played really well as an inside midfielder and then when he went into defence, particularly late in the game," Geelong VFL coach Matthew Knights told Fairfax News.

The availability of Corey is just one matter for Scott to consider, but there’s also the return of star forward Steve Johnson and veteran midfielder James Kelly, both back from suspension.

Johnson and Kelly were particularly good when the sides last met in the third round of the NAB Cup, collecting 20 and 22 disposals respectively.

If the talented and experienced trio returns, the Cats will be close to full strength against the Roos at Etihad Stadium.

Key backman Mitch Brown is also pushing for a call-up, after registering 34 disposals and 11 marks against Williamstown.
