Lions offer first two picks to Magpies for Dayne Beams
Lions happy to pay up for Dayne Beams but stars are off the table.
The Brisbane Lions are prepared to offer Collingwood draft picks No.5 and No.25 in exchange for midfielder Dayne Beams, according to Lions chief executive Greg Swann.
Beams is still contracted to the Magpies until the end of 2015 but he has requested a move back to his home state of Queensland to be closer to his ill father.
Speaking to NAB AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday, Swann said the Lions' first and second-round picks could be on offer to secure the 24-year-old All Australian.
"That's (picks No.5 and No.25) something that we've spoken about and put on the table as well," Swann said.
"That'd probably be available and we'll work through some other things there as well, maybe some swaps of picks later on."
In addition to the Lions' first-round draft pick, Collingwood has requested a quality player to complete the Beams deal, naming Jack Redden, James Aish, Sam Mayes, Pearce Hanley and Dayne Zorko on its shortlist.
But Swann said the club would not consider releasing a senior player alongside its first-round pick.
"We understand that we've got to offer a little bit more from a picks point of view," he said.
"We think it's way over anyway, the quality of the players that Collingwood has asked for as well as pick No. 5, we just think that's not going to happen."
Swann confirmed the Lions are interested in Geelong midfielder Allen Christensen, with the 23-year-old seeking a move to Queensland club.
Collingwood has shown an interest in securing out-of-contract North Melbourne midfielder Levi Greenwood, after he 25-year-old yesterday nominated the Magpies as his preferred destination.
