Exciting young ruck Maddison Torpey has become a Kangaroo in an AFLW deadline day trade.
The 20-year-old Torpey arrives at Arden St from Carlton, in exchange for a future fifth-round draft selection.
Her trade completes a busy trade deadline day for the Kangaroos, who earlier on Wednesday traded Niamh Martin to Hawthorn, and Ariana Hetherington to Collingwood.
However, North Melbourne was unable to complete a deal with the Western Bulldogs for former No.1 draft pick Kristie-Lee Weston-Turner, who will now try her luck in Monday night's 2025 Telstra AFLW Draft.
North Melbourne AFLW list manager Flynn Loft said the Roos remained hopeful of drafting Weston-Turner.
"She is an exciting player who is really committed to getting to our club," Loft said.
"Ultimately the value (the Bulldogs) wanted was too high for us. We couldn't get the deal done but ... we're really keen to hopefully bring her in on Monday night."
Torpey, who stands 184cm, caught recruiters' eyes as a junior in elite talent pathways, when she captained the Sandringham Dragons.
She made her AFLW debut for Carlton in Round 4 this season, and went on to play three games for the Blues.
“We’re excited by her development potential to grow into a solid ruck at AFLW level,” Loft said of Torpey.
“We think she’ll be a great addition to our program and are confident she can thrive at North Melbourne.”
The deadline day moves complete North Melbourne’s 2025 AFLW trade period, following the earlier departures of Ella Slocombe and Georgia Stubs, and a pick swap with Carlton.
The Kangaroos will take picks No. 37, 48, 55, 73 and 91 into Monday night's draft.
