He enjoyed his first taste of AFL and couldn't have been more impressive on debut, but Aaron Mullett is far from content.

Given the massive challenge of playing his first game in a must-win battle against the Dockers, Mullett now has his eyes on backing up against the Saints in arguably the most important game in the club’s recent history.

"It was a privilege to get named (to debut). I know obviously so much is at stake at the moment," Mullett told Tony Jones and Michael Christian on Radio Sport National on Wednesday.

The 19 year-old showed poise and composure well beyond his years in game number one and admitted he was like an excited child when he was told he’d be playing.

"I was in the gym and Boomer (Brent Harvey) came up to me and said 'has the coach talked to you yet?' and I said, 'no' then he walked away.

"I was thinking positive. I was waiting for him (Brad) to come up. I was kicking the footy and saw him coming over to me. I had a big smile on my face and he said 'Are you ready to go this week?', and I said 'Yeah, ready as ever.'

"All the boys were getting into me and trying to make me laugh. I can't really remember the time, it just went that quick when he was talking to me but he pretty much just said 'With your form, I've got no choice but to pick you.'"

Scott's faith in the promoted rookie proved fruitful. Mullett picked up 17 possessions and set up several attacking thrusts with some terrific work off half-back.

And while he's not sure whether he'll be in the 22 again this week, the skilful left-footer will be ready again if he gets the chance.

"It's really exciting, especially this week. We trained yesterday and the feeling this week…it's something that hasn't been there this year.

"Hopefully I can string another couple together and we can play some good finals football."
