Something of a draft slider, North Melbourne selected Eddie Ford in the fourth round of the 2020 NAB AFL Draft.

An exciting, high-flying tall/medium forward, Ford was touted for more midfield time in his draft year at the Western Jets, however the forced cancellation of the season saw that unfortunately fall by the wayside.

Often working up onto the wing and into the midfield, Ford’s natural ability to link play between the midfield and forward line, coupled with his rare speed and agility through traffic shows he has the potential to contribute anywhere in the front half of the field.

North Melbourne debut: Round 20, 2021

2021: The on-field development shown by Ford across the 2021 season was overwhelmingly positive, with the young forward acting as a shining light for the VFL side before transitioning into the senior team.

Playing as a centre-half forward for much of his time in the VFL, Ford gained valuable experience playing on bigger, stronger bodies while learning different aspects of North’s game plan.

After collecting 17 disposals and 2 goals in back to back victories over Coburg and Werribee, Ford made his senior debut against Geelong and kicked his first career goal in final term.

His goal-sense and ability to set teammates up shone through at the back end of the year, as he registered a game-high 10 score involvements against the Swans in just his third game.

While Ford looks to have found his home in the forward line, his ability to, at times, run through the midfield at VFL level is a tantalising area for his development.

Another pre-season to add bulk to his frame is a welcome prospect, and he’ll be looking to establish himself as a solid and consistent contributor at the top level in 2022.
