Defender/winger Darcy Tucker has been sidelined for the rest of the season due to a back injury, while tall Callum Coleman-Jones is expected to play his first minutes of competitive football this weekend since rupturing his Achilles in 2024.
"Darcy suffered a back injury which restricted his ability to get into group training last week," North Melbourne head of performance Kevin White said.
"After follow up scans and surgical consult, he'll undergo back surgery next week.
"This will unfortunately rule him out for the remainder of the season due to recovery time needed post-procedure."
In positive news, Coleman-Jones will return to play on managed minutes this Sunday at Victoria Park against Collingwood in the VFL.
The ruck-forward hasn't featured at any level since rupturing his right Achilles tendon on Good Friday last season.
"This is a great milestone for Callum who has worked hard across the past year," White said.

BUY NOWDraftee Matt Whitlock will miss the next two weeks due to a concussion he sustained in the two-point reserves win over Richmond.
"Matt will undergo the AFL-mandated protocols over the next 10 days which should see him return to group training after the AFL team's bye," White said.
Jackson Archer is 4-5 weeks away from making his return from a hamstring injury, having made significant inroads across the last week, White said.
Fellow defender Josh Goater (quad/hamstring) is a fortnight away from a comeback and will look to build out his strength and footy conditioning over the next two weeks in preparation for the second half of the season.
Fourth-year Roo Miller Bergman had successful surgery last week to repair his ACL, and will focus on his upper-body strength work during the early phase of his rehab.
