One half of North Melbourne's most famous sibling double act, Krakouer joined the Kangaroos in 1982 with his brother Phil, hailing from Mt Barker and arriving via Claremont in the WAFL.

A gifted and instinctive forward, the Minang man was known for his composure, vision and ability to impact games in bursts.

He won the club’s goalkicking in 1986 and 1988, with Phil topping the list three times in the same decade.

Jim's standout 1986 season earned him the Syd Barker Medal as the club's best and fairest.

A dazzling contributor during the club’s finals campaigns in the mid-1980s, Krakouer’s class allowed him to play both deep forward and further up the ground.

He finished with 134 games and 229 goals for the Kangaroos and in recognition of his impact, was named in the Indigenous Team of the Century in 2005.

His brother Andrew L. Krakouer also played for the club, while his son Andrew J. Krakouer (Richmond, Collingwood) later continued the family’s AFL legacy. He is also the uncle to Nathan Krakouer (Port Adelaide, Gold Coast) and Arthur Jones (Western Bulldogs).
