Krakouer arrived at North Melbourne in 1982 alongside his older brother Jim, recruited from WAFL side Claremont.

Proud Minang men, the boys from Mt Barker captivated crowds and throughout the 1980s formed one of the VFL's most dangerous double acts.

According to Jim, Phil was perhaps even more skilled than his older brother. His unique kicking style and goal-sense made him able to create something from nothing, and he regularly thrilled fans with moments of pure brilliance.

Phil led the club's goalkicking on three occasions (1983, 1985, 1987), and alongside Jim was a key figure in North Melbourne’s finals campaigns throughout the mid-1980s. He finished his career with 141 games and 224 goals for the Kangaroos.

Belonging to a famous football family, he is also the brother of Andrew L. Krakouer, who played at the club, and uncle to Nathan Krakouer (Port Adelaide, Gold Coast), Andrew J. Krakouer (Richmond, Collingwood), and Arthur Jones (Western Bulldogs).
