Originally from Warracknabeal in country Victoria, McCasker was one of four boys born to Edith (nee Dougherty) and Edwin McCasker. He began his football career as a 21-year-old with VFA team Northcote, playing 18 games from 1923-25 including Round 3 on May 16, 1925 before he was picked up by North Melbourne's VFL team during the season.

He debuted against Hawthorn in Round 6, replacing an injured player and making his mark on the winning game with the Age newspaper noting, "McCasker gave Hawthorn no rest."

He didn't appear for North's seniors again until Round 16 in a winning game against Melbourne and held his place as a follower the next week against Hawthorn.

Having retained his links to VFA clubs, he was secretary of Preston Football Club, resigning in 1934.

He enlisted in the RAAF in World War Two in 1942, aged 39, ranked as a Flight Lieutenant, serving for four years where he was described as superior - "knows his work and does it well".

In 1927 Allan married Queenie (nee Cocks) and they had two children. McCasker died in Preston and was cremated at Fawkner Memorial Park, Victoria, aged 80.
