Born in Koroit, Victoria, to Bridget Mary (nee Kelly) and John Joseph Lynch, he was recruited from Port Fairy in April 1925. The Age newspaper at a practice match noted, "Lynch, a recruit who was having his first run is likely to prove an acquisition."
He started with North Melbourne's VFL team in Round 4 against Essendon on the half-forward flank. Against Melbourne on May 30, the Sporting Globe newspaper noted by half-time it was, "Lynch's fourth goal in succession" and he was named in the best players.
Variously selected as full-forward, on the wing or the flank, Lynch played every game through to Round 17, kicking 22 goals. Newspaper reports stated over the year: "Lynch scored a goal with a nice running shot", "Lynch battled well against three opponents", "Lynch was instrumental in attack", "Lynch drove the ball".
The following year saw him playing from Rounds 3 to 14 with 19 goals. In 1927 he was only selected in three games but kicked six goals in a game against Hawthorn.
After returning to Port Fairy for several years, he returned to North in 1932, playing until 1935 in another 33 games.
While living in country Yarram in Gippsland, Jack enlisted in the Army in World War Two in June 1940 and was medically discharged in October 1940. He died in Yarram, Victoria.
