Known as "Tim" throughout his football career, although he said he had no idea where the nickname came from, Trevaskis was born in Richmond, Victoria, the fourth child of six born to Rosetta (nee Jordan) and George W Trevaskis. He was a known schoolboy athlete, captaining his football and cricket teams at Melbourne Technical School. He also played on the wing with North Melbourne Imperials while still at school, then transferred to West Melbourne Juniors team.

Trevaskis had one game with North Melbourne's VFA team in 1921, then 28 games in 1923-24, kicking 12 goals while playing mainly as a centre man. He was mentioned several times in newspaper reports, one of which in May 1924 against Hawthorn stated," Trevaskis roved beautifully".

It was natural that he remained with North in 1925 as his father was vice-president. Selected on the half-forward flank, he played in the club's first VFL game in Round 1, May 1925 against Geelong and played regularly for North over the next five years.

In July 1927 against Footscray he was named "best of the forwards". Captain of North Melbourne in 1929, on June 8 he was a Victorian rep against NSW in a winning team playing as a forward.

Transferring to VFA team Coburg, aged 27, as captain/coach he played in the centre or on the wing in 11 games, kicking five goals.

In 1923 he married Alicia Florence (nee Cruickshank) and in 1924 they had a son named Albert Ernest and two other children. Trevaskis rests at Fawkner Memorial Park, Victoria.
